ANCHORAGE, Alaska–According to the AP, Mount Redoubt has begun erupting. Scientists have said that the Alaska volcano, Mount Redoubt, has erupted at least 3 times late Sunday and early Monday.

The increased activity had prompted scientists to raise the alert level over the weekend. On Sunday morning it was reported that 40 to 50 earthquakes were being recorded every hour.

Geophysicist John Power had this to say:

“This is a fairly large eruption, close to the larger cities in Alaska.”

Mount Redoubt is an active and currently erupting composite volcano in the Aleutian Range. It is also the highest mountain within the range.

Mount Redoubt is located approximately 110 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. The last time it erupted was in 1989.
